Improv Comes to Palmdale Playhouse This Saturday

PALMDALE - “Curtain Call,” an evening of improvisational theatre presented by Palmdale Theatre Arts students will take center stage at the Palmdale Playhouse this Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 pm. The Playhouse is located at 38334 10th Street East in Palmdale.

The teens will present a complete improv show, totally unscripted, with scenes and ideas suggested by the audience.

Tickets for “Curtain Call” are only $5.

Tickets for upcoming events may be purchased 24 hours a day on the Playhouse Web site at www.cityofpalmdale.org/playhouse.

“This past year presented a new set of challenges in getting these kids out of their comfort zone,” said instructor Jay Berckes. “Students learned theatre is not as easy as it appears and they tackled such subjects as directing, cast problems and improvisation.”

Palmdale Theatre Arts classes are conducted by Berckes every Tuesday evening at the Palmdale Playhouse. Pre teens meet from 6 pm to 7 pm and teens meet from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.

Berckes is a middle school teacher with the Lancaster School District and has been teaching drama at Park View Middle School for three years. He has been a professional magician for nearly 20 years and was the creator of the Park View Magicians Guild, a club that taught illusion and sleight of hand to middle school students. Most recently, Berckes directed the Palmdale Playhouse’s 2010 summer theatre camp production of “Treasure Island.”

“Come out and support the performing arts and enjoy an evening of excellent entertainment,” said Berckes.

We still have openings this SAT at 2 pm for kids/ teens who want to try improvisation class. Great for shy kids, those who need to speak in public, or just general confidence.
